Another donation for Gurnard Primary School
Today, I managed to hand over another cheque to Gurnard Primary School...
Another £49 raised, which brings the total to £116!
Two Gurnard Primary pupils who entered the competition last year talked about the book, the feedback received, and even had time to read one of the stories.
We also got some fantastic feedback yesterday...
REVIEW by Michael Henson
I stumbled across this book by happen chance and am totally wowed by how good it is. It is simplistic but it was written by kids and it is for kids, so that works. Grab a copy of this book, read it with your child and then let their imagination run away as they try their hand at being a great author."
GURNARD'S BOOK OF DELIGHTS IS NOW FREE TO DOWNLOAD AS AN eBOOK - UNTIL SATURDAY 8TH MARCH
It would help us a lot if you would leave a review at the end... thank you.
All the best,
Vanessa

REVIEW by Michael Henson
"Why is this the best book of the day? Because it is that good.
The idea behind this book is very simple, have kids write a story about one subject, pick the best and put them in a book. The idea might be simple but there are so many ways for a book like this to fail but this one does not. This is a book for kids, illustrated by kids and written by kids. It is one of those rare books filled with talent that will also help to encourage your child to try their hand at writing.

Get your FREE eBook for children
On World Book Day, I presented the school with two signed copies of The Bother in Burmeon by S.P. Moss, and challenged the school children to write a story involving time travel.
Luckily, some did.
The imagination these children showed was fantastic, and the effort taken by the younger ones to illustrate their stories impressive. All children received a certificate, and some The Bother in Burmeon goodies kindly donated by S.P. Moss, who subsequently agreed to judge the Years 4 and 5 entries for an overall winner. I judged the Reception to Year 3 entries. These overall winners in each year group received a £5 Amazon Voucher I donated.
I wrote my first children's story, DETECTIVE GLEN, specifically for this collection and had a lot of fun with it.
Anyway, it's "Read an eBook week" and we are also celebrating World Book Day this week - so it seemed like a great time to run a FREE promotion. So, for the next five days you can get this wonderful collection for nothing!
Please download it now via amazon to your kindle or kindle device, and if you would be so kind as to leave a review once you are finished I would be really grateful.

Have a fantastic day.

A Gruffalo visits Gurnard School...
I had to blog here to post these amazing pictures of a Gruffalo and backdrop created by an incredibly talented parent at Gurnard Primary School, Jane Watson...
She had even made all the bits detachable... poisonous wart, purple prickles, knobbly knees, the lot!
The children spent a week looking at the story of The Gruffalo by the amazing Julia Donaldson.
I have told Jane she should think about making these resources for sale... every school, library, etc should have one!
The best one is how she made them... from things she had in her garage, and lining paper! WOW...
Without the support of parents like Jane it would be hard for schools to provide these types of resources. Although, I have to say that Gurnard does a fantastic job!
Of course, any of you who have taken a look at Gurnard's Book of Delights will realise how talented the children at this school are.
So, if you feel like having a look... check out the book so that I can make more lovely donations to provide the school with even more Goodies!
Thanks for reading,

Introducing...Britta Jensen
Time to find out a bit more about Britta Jensen...
What was your favourite book when you were a child?
What was your favourite book when you were a child?
I loved Little House on the Prairie, I must have read the
whole series at least three times.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was also a frequent re-read as well as
A Wrinkle in Time.
What did you want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to be a “triple threat” otherwise known as a
Broadway actor, singer, dancer. I was
always trying to organize the neighborhood kids, as well as my siblings, for
dance-offs. No one was quite as
interested in being “seen” by agents as I was.
Which children’s books have you read recently?
Mondays are Red by
Nicola Morgan, the Divergent series
by Veronica Roth, and I am currently reading Disconnect by Imran Siddiq
What’s your favourite snack?
Chocolate covered ginger
biscuits and a German delicacy called Hoernchen
(a chocolate dipped crescent
biscuit made out of almonds and pastry dough).
If you could be any character in a book, who or what would
you be?
I would want to be a combination of Katniss Everdeen, from Hunger Games, Alexia, from my book The Curse of Beal Atha. I like the idea
of having bravery, incredible strength and endurance, as well as serious
intellectual prowess.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I dance Argentine Tango, knit, sketch oil pastels, and hike
through the hills behind my flat.
Is there anything that scares you?
I am terrified of
spiders. I grew up in Japan where there are all varieties of creepy
crawlies. (We even have hammerhead
worms!) Since I’m surrounded by woods
where I live in Bavaria ,
there are these enormous spiders that like to torment myself and my cats Nina
and Shiva.
What story are you working on at the moment?
I’m editing my debut novel, The Curse of Beal Atha, and getting ready to start the second book
in the series.
